History methodology

History begins with the actual snapshot retained by this project; we do not reconstruct past values or imply coverage before the archive began. Repeated downloads of identical records do not add observations. Changed records are retained in separate snapshots, including corrections with the same source date.

Comparisons match the exact NDC, normalized product description, pricing unit, and generic/brand classification. A changed representative NDC starts a separate series. The earlier value is the latest available observation with a strictly earlier source date; gaps are not filled. Same-date revisions remain downloadable and visible in record tables, but are not treated as price changes over time. Ambiguous revised series do not show a trend chart.

The selected descriptions are not the whole market. No market-wide averages, retail price estimates, or patient savings are calculated. Read the selection methodology and consult the original CMS dataset.
